About Deaimon: Recipe for Happiness
Nagomu Irino, a gifted musician turned pastry enthusiast, returns to the Kyoto family wagashi shop after a decade away when his father falls ill. He thought he'd step into Ryokushou and keep the business humming, but life has other plans. The local bakery world sees him as a prodigal son who should carry on the lineage, yet the shop's elder guardians push him toward the unlikely role of mentor to Itsuka Yukihira, the quiet young apprentice everyone assumes will someday take the reins. The arrangement tests his ambitions, his family ties, and his own sense of purpose as he tries to blend tradition with his own recipes for happiness.
Created by Reiko Yoshida and Rin Asano, the series adapts Rin Asano's manga into animated form, bringing the wagashi world to life with warm humor. The voice cast features Nobunaga Shimazaki and Kozue Yuuki.
The show nods to Kyoto's wagashi craft and the rituals of a family business, portraying patient craft, seasonal ingredients, and the quiet pride of keeping tradition alive. It invites viewers to savor small moments and the interchange between generations.
Critics have noted a gentle pace that favors character development over flashy twists, pairing humor with heartfelt moments. The show explores duty versus desire, the weight of lineage, and how food can seal bonds and heal rifts.
