About Heaven's Lost Property
Tomoki Sakurai is a perennially distracted teen whose quiet, wishful life is interrupted when a mysterious winged girl, Ikaros, literally falls from the sky and starts calling him "master." She looks human but behaves like an obedient artificial being, and her origin and purpose are wrapped in secrets. As Tomoki tries to cope with sudden domestic chaos, more Angeloids arrive, each with different abilities and personalities, upsetting any hope of normalcy. The show mixes broad comedy and risqué gags with quieter emotional scenes, and its second season, Heaven's Lost Property: Forte, raises the stakes by introducing a new Angeloid with a mission that puts Tomoki squarely in the crosshairs.
The anime premiered in 2009, adapted from Suu Minazuki's manga, with series composition by Yuko Kakihara, and was produced for television as a multi-episode adaptation that later expanded into OVAs and a second season.
Ikaros calling Tomoki "master" became a recurring image in fan art and memes, and the series is often cited when people talk about ecchi comedies from the late 2000s. Its character designs and the contrasting mix of innocent faces with provocative setups helped it stand out in fandom, prompting discussions and a steady presence at anime conventions and online communities.
Critical response has been mixed to positive, reflected in a 7.6/10 user average. Reviewers and viewers tend to praise the chemistry among the main cast and the moments of genuine emotion, while opinion splits over the heavy fanservice. Thematically, the show plays with ideas about desire, agency, and what happens when power is handed to someone without full understanding of its costs.
Heaven's Lost Property didn't win major industry awards, but it built a loyal audience, led to sequels and extra episodes, and supported a range of merchandise and home video releases. For many fans it remains a memorable, if divisive, example of anime that blends slapstick humor with unexpected sentimental beats.
