About Hotel Transylvania 2
When the hotel welcomes its old-school patriarch for an unexpected family reunion, Dracula is forced to balance ancient vampire customs with a much more modern household. His daughter Mavis and her human husband Johnny want their boy, Dennis, to grow up with love and freedom, while Vlad pushes for tradition and tough love. Dracula tries to prove he can preserve his lineage and keep the hotel a safe haven for monsters, but his efforts lead to misunderstandings, slapstick attempts at parenting and cross-generational clashes. The film keeps the tone light, focusing on family dynamics and identity, and it avoids spoiling how those tensions will resolve by the end.
Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, the 2015 sequel builds on characters created by Robert Smigel and Adam Sandler, reuniting much of the original voice cast and continuing the animated franchise.
The movie was a commercial success, drawing large family audiences and reinforcing the franchise's box office appeal. Its performance helped justify further sequels and made the brand a regular choice for family outings and holiday programming.
Among fans the film strengthened several characters into recognizable animated icons, from Dracula's overprotective dad act to Johnny's clueless enthusiasm. It boosted merchandising, inspired Halloween costumes, and kept themed hotel hijinks in pop culture conversations for families and younger viewers.
Critics gave mixed to generally positive responses, and audience scores skewed favorable, reflected in its average user rating. Themes include generational conflict, acceptance of mixed identities, and blending old traditions with new values, all presented with broad humor and a focus on family warmth.
