About Iron Lung
The stars have vanished and the planets disappeared, leaving a scattered fleet of space stations and dying ships to drift where hope once burned. The few who remain speak softly of an ending they call The Quiet Rapture, a rumor that civilization itself may be fading. After decades of rust and neglect, the Consolidation of Iron makes a startling discovery on a barren moon known as AT-5, a sea of red liquid that seems to move and breathe under the ice. Believing there are scarce resources hidden beneath, they launch an expedition no one can decline. A cramped submarine is built, and a convict is welded inside to guarantee obedience. To survive the pressure of the depths, the forward viewport is sealed in metal, turning the crew's only window into a dangerous barrier against the unknown. If they succeed, freedom awaits; if they fail, another crew will be sent to try.
Directed by Mark Fischbach from a screenplay by Amy Nelson and David Szymanski, Iron Lung is a taut sci fi horror built around a desperate salvage mission that tests loyalty and nerve under pressure for audiences who crave hard science and tight plotting.
Box office figures for Iron Lung have not been released publicly as it enters theaters. With a limited footprint, commercial performance may depend on streaming and word of mouth.
There are no announced nominations or awards for Iron Lung at this time. The film's initial reception is shaping up around its atmosphere, visuals, and daring setup rather than prestige awards, with critics noting its intense tension.
Early responses hint at a claustrophobic mood that leans on sound design and tight framing to heighten fear. The film raises questions about isolation, control, and what people will do for freedom when the depths stare back, testing loyalty, mercy, and the cost of survival in a closed world.
