Masterminds

David Ghantt, a good natured but ordinary night guard at an armored car company in the American South, leads a quiet, unglamorous life. A bored moment, a half baked plan, and a chance encounter pull him into a rash scheme to steal a fortune. He teams up with a quirky crew whose fortunes keep shifting as their plan runs into bad luck, bigger egos, and surprisingly human desires. What follows is a comedy of errors set against the dull glow of a security depot and dusty back roads, where clever schemes collide with sloppy execution. The movie leans into deadpan humor and the absurdity of everyday life gone rogue, without tipping into darkness.

Directed by Jared Hess, Masterminds is inspired by the Loomis Fargo bank heist. The script comes from Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer and Emily Spivey, with Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson and Kristen Wiig leading the quirky ensemble.
