About My Gym Partner's a Monkey
Adam Lyon is a normal kid who suddenly finds himself at Charles Darwin Middle School, a place where every student is a different animal. A clerical mistake has him listed as a lion, forcing him to join a class full of anthropomorphic creatures. In gym class he teams up with Jake Spidermonkey, and the two quickly become unlikely best friends as they bumble through clumsy routines, goofy mishaps, and the odd pep rally. The show mixes classroom comedy with zoo world logic, turning homework and recess into a series of quick sketches about fitting in, loyalty, and finding a place to belong when your school is full of characters who are anything but ordinary.
Released on Cartoon Network in 2005, the show was created by Tim Cahill and Julie McNally Cahill and produced by Cartoon Network Studios. It features Tom Kenny, Grey DeLisle, Rick Gomez, Phil LaMarr, and Nika Futterman.
The premise of a human student among animal classmates stood out in mid 2000s animation. It helped define Cartoon Network's playful, offbeat humor during that era and remains a memorable example of mixing classroom life with zoo world quirks.
Audience reception was mixed, with a 6.3 out of 10 rating from 102 votes reflecting a solid but uneven appeal. The show explores friendship across differences, belonging, and adapting to school life when normal rules get rewritten by a wacky animal driven world.
Awards: The series did not attract major award nominations. While it had a steady run in Cartoon Network's lineup and earned affection from its target audience, it did not receive widely recognized nominations or wins.
