Hiyori Iki is an ordinary middle schooler until a bus accident she tries to stop leaves her spirit slipping out of her body, making her aware of a parallel realm where phantoms and gods exist. While caught between the two worlds she meets Yato, a strange, nameless god who has no shrine and survives by taking odd jobs for a five yen offering. He agrees to help Hiyori undo her condition, and their bargain draws them into conflicts with vengeful spirits and complex social rules that govern gods and their human tools, called regalia.
