A brilliant but young pupil becomes obsessed with forbidden ideas about the Earth and the Sun after hearing a forbidden lecture from a disgraced mentor. When that mentor's research vanishes, the child starts a quiet hunt for those lost notes, following clues that lead into libraries, hidden rooms, and whispered networks. All the while an organized Inquisition presses toward anyone who questions orthodox doctrine, so he has to be careful about who he trusts.
