About Record of Lodoss War
On a land scarred by endless fighting, a new threat rises from a myth long buried, as an awakened goddess of destruction is stirred by a ruthless wizard. To halt the coming doom, a six person party forms, each with their own reasons for joining the cause and a pledge to protect Lodoss. Led by Parn, a stubborn young fighter, the group crosses a brutal world where dragons stalk the skies and ancient magic hums beneath the earth. Together they face hard battles, tough choices, and a looming fate that could redefine their world. The clash between light and shadow has begun. Along the way, private motives and uneasy alliances surface for all time.
Released in 1990, the series brings to life the Lodoss War fantasy saga created by Ryo Mizuno with collaboration from Mami Watanabe, translating the epic to animated form. Its character driven action helped popularize serialized fantasy on television for years.
The show stands as one of the early anime to popularize high fantasy storytelling on television. Its ensemble of warriors, dragons, and magic helped shape later quest driven adventures and a generation of fans grew up debating character arcs, battles and heroic ideals, long after the credits rolled for fans.
Critics and fans alike have praised its solid pacing and character dynamics, even as it embraces classic fantasy tropes. The series foregrounds loyalty, courage and the costs of war while blending RPG style battles with mythic magic, science of strategy and personal sacrifice.
Box office figures are not applicable to this TV series, as it aired on television rather than in theatres, so there are no worldwide grosses to report. Nevertheless the show sparked home video releases and enduring fan demand among collectors.
