About Red Roses
Meryem was forced into marriage at fourteen inside a strict Islamic sect, and years later she realizes her daughter Zeynep is being groomed to repeat that fate as the bride of the sheikh's grandson. With help from her sister-in-law, a woman who left the group and knows its inner rules, Meryem makes a risky plan to get Zeynep out. To carry it out she keeps her intentions hidden from a brutal husband and takes a job caring for Levent, a secular psychiatrist who reluctantly agrees to assist. Their different worldviews create tension and sparks, and as their relationship becomes more complicated the household faces new shocks tied to Levent's family. Every move risks everything, and time runs out.
Red Roses premiered in 2023, created by Necati Şahin. It stars Özgü Namal and Özcan Deniz alongside Erkan Avcı, Mert Turak and Mert Yazıcıoğlu. The drama is an original Turkish television production. It debuted on Turkish screens and streaming services.
As of its release there are no major international awards or high-profile nominations tied to Red Roses. Instead attention has focused on the lead performances and the show's willingness to address sensitive social issues, rather than prize recognition. No industry prizes followed, though critics praised performance and subject matter.
Among viewers the series generated discussion about forced child marriage, sect authority, and women's agency in contemporary Turkey. Social media threads and opinion columns debated the portrayal of religious power structures and the moral choices characters make. It pushed conversations beyond entertainment, into legal and social debate.
Critical and audience responses were mixed, with a limited sample yielding a 5.6/10 user rating from 16 votes. Reviewers and viewers highlighted strong central performances, and the series keeps recurring themes of gender, identity, loyalty, and clashes between conservative belief and secular life. Some viewers noted uneven pacing and melodrama.
