Sparrow

Set in Republican-era Shanghai, Sparrow follows Chen Shen, a covert operative working under Special Operations Executive director Bi Zhongliang. As one of the so-called "sparrows," Chen Shen embeds himself inside enemy circles to pass intelligence and carry out high-risk assignments. The series traces the strain that a life of secrecy places on relationships, as loyalties shift and personal feelings complicate professional duties. While missions and betrayals drive the action, the story also focuses on the quiet, tense moments that reveal the cost of living a double life, and how characters balance patriotism, love, and survival without resolving every moral knot.

Released in 2016, Sparrow was directed by Jin Chen and is adapted from the novel by Hai Fei. Creator Fei Hai assembled a young ensemble cast including Li Yifeng, Zhou Dongyu, Zhang Luyi, Zhang Ruoyun, and Kan Qingzi.
