Lawrence is a traveling merchant who moves from village to village with a horse-drawn cart, buying and selling goods to make ends meet. In one stop he meets Holo, a striking young woman with animal ears and a tail, worshipped locally as the Wisewolf that blesses the harvests. Holo longs to return to her northern homeland, and Lawrence agrees to carry her along as he continues his trading routes.
