About High School D×D
Issei Hyodo is a shamelessly lustful high schooler whose biggest dream is to build a harem, but his luck collapses on a first date that ends in a brutal death. He's brought back to life as a devil by his stunning senior, Rias Gremory, who makes him one of her loyal servants. Ordinary school routines give way to clashes among devils, angels and other supernatural factions, training to grow stronger, and awkward romantic tension with classmates. The series mixes broad comedy and schoolroom banter with full-on supernatural combat, so the mood can flip from silly to intense while keeping the focus on Issei's growth and relationships. School life collides with supernatural duty.
High School D×D premiered in 2012 and adapts Ichiei Ishibumi's light novel work. Created by Kenji Konuta, Minami Kuribayashi and Ichiei Ishibumi, the TV anime reached international viewers through English subtitled and dubbed releases across platforms.
The show did not receive major industry awards, but it carved out a clear niche among anime fans. Discussions often center on the balance between risque fanservice and action, and it remains a frequent reference point in conversations about modern harem anime and audience expectations.
Culturally, High School D×D helped boost Western attention to ecchi-heavy harem series, appearing often in online fan art and cosplay. Distinctive character designs and recurring comedic set pieces made leads like Rias familiar to many viewers, and the blend of humor, fanservice and supernatural battles influenced later entries in the genre more broadly.
Audience reception is mixed but generally positive, reflected in a strong 8.533/10 average from nearly 2,000 votes. Fans and critics praise the energetic action and character chemistry, while criticism targets the heavy fanservice and harem mechanics. Fan debate continues, keeping the series a lively subject in community discussions.
