About Stockholm Stories
In Stockholm Stories five strangers in the Swedish capital live parallel, uneasy lives that begin to brush against one another over a few days. Johan is a young, eager writer who lacks the talent he thinks he has. Thomas is a clever ad man who seems successful but is strangely isolated. Jessika keeps her distance and fills her hours with work. Douglas is a reserved, wealthy young man nursing a quiet crush, and Anna has just been left and is rethinking what she wants. Small coincidences, awkward encounters and private failures push them to admit painful truths about love, pride and loneliness, and to rethink how they relate to the people around them.
The film was released in 2013, directed by Karin Fahlén and created from an original concept by Erik Ahrnbom, positioning it within Sweden's contemporary indie drama scene.
Stockholm Stories had a limited theatrical run and played at select festivals, so its box office was modest, relying more on arthouse screenings and later home and festival audiences than wide commercial returns.
Though not a mainstream breakthrough, the film carved out a place among viewers who like dry humor and intimate character work, with its chilly urban visuals often cited as an effective backdrop. It has stayed visible on streaming and festival circuits in Scandinavia, appealing to audiences who favor subtle, character-driven cinema.
Critical response was mixed to positive, reflected in a 6.1/10 user vote average from a small number of viewers. Reviewers tended to praise the ensemble cast and the film's unsentimental tone, noting its interest in urban isolation, missed connections and the awkward ways people seek connection. The pacing is quiet and observational, and the themes linger after the credits.
