About Stromberg – The Movie
When the regional branch of Capitol-Insurance is summoned to a lavish hotel for the company's 50th anniversary, Bernd Stromberg sees a chance to prove his worth. Rumors about financial trouble mean staff worry about closures and transfers to headquarters. Stromberg, ever eager to be seen as an ideal manager, tries to rally his awkward, fractious team while keeping his own reputation intact. The gathering turns into a test of loyalties, petty rivalries and office politics as coworkers trade barbs, alliances and uncomfortable confessions. Tension and humor build around job security, romantic entanglements and Stromberg's blunt, often inappropriate leadership, with the plot following their chaotic attempts to save their jobs without revealing major twists. Old grievances resurface and small triumphs matter.
Directed by Arne Feldhusen and based on Ralf Husmann's hit TV series, the 2014 film stars Christoph Maria Herbst as Bernd Stromberg, with Bjarne Mädel, Oliver Wnuk, Diana Staehly and Milena Dreißig rounding out the core cast in supporting roles.
Audience and critics gave mixed to positive responses, the film holding a 6.9/10 average from viewers. The humor leans on awkward workplace comedy, satirizing management incompetence, office gossip and strained team dynamics, while the ensemble performances keep the tone familiar for fans of the series, though some critics were divided.
Stromberg - The Movie brought the TV characters to cinemas, reinforcing the show's popularity across Germany. It helped cement Bernd Stromberg as a recognizable figure in German comedy and encouraged broader conversations about the absurdities of corporate culture among its audience, and it remains a touchstone for German office comedy.
Released theatrically in Germany in 2014, the film capitalized on the established fanbase from the TV series and drew notable domestic attention, though detailed international box office figures are not widely reported, and it opened to strong domestic fan turnout.
