In 1942 a convoy of civilian ships sails from Iceland toward the Soviet Union, carrying needed materiel for the war effort. The crew is a mix of clerks, technicians, and volunteers, none of them professional sailors, and their camaraderie is put to the test by a brutal sea. Despite an Allied escort, a chain of intelligence misreads leaves the flotilla exposed to relentless German air and surface attacks.
