About The Betrayal Knows My Name
Yuki Sakurai is a gentle teen with an unusual talent: he can glimpse the burdens and pains that haunt other people. His ordinary life changes when Luka, a striking and mysterious young man, turns up and starts protecting him. Soon Yuki is targeted by shadowy creatures called Duras, and he gets pulled into a hidden world of sorcery and danger. As allies gather around him, secrets about Yuki's origins begin to surface, forcing him to rethink who he trusts and what his power really means, without revealing the series' major twists.
Released in 2010, the series was directed by Katsushi Sakurabi and developed from scripts by Natsuko Takahashi and Hotaru Odagiri. It’s an animated drama that leans on atmospheric visuals and a strong voice cast to carry much of its emotional weight.
The show didn’t collect major industry awards, though it found a steady niche audience. It didn’t make headlines during award season, yet it maintained visibility among genre fans and anime festivals where it was screened or discussed.
Among viewers the series left a noticeable footprint, especially within fan communities. Character dynamics, particularly the relationship between Yuki and Luka, prompted fan art, fiction, and online discussion. Its imagery and key confrontations have shown up in fan playlists and panels, keeping interest alive years after the original run.
Critical reception was mixed to positive, reflected in modest scores and a small pool of reviews. Viewers and critics often praised the vocal performances, especially the lead cast, while reactions varied on pacing and exposition. Thematically, the show centers on identity, memory, the cost of protection, and how past trauma shapes present choices. It’s the sort of series that appeals to people who like emotional, supernatural dramas with an emphasis on relationships and slow-building revelations.
