About The Five Venoms

An aging master passes a final assignment to his last student Yang De. With fading strength, the mentor sends Yang De to locate five former pupils who have mastered distinct kung fu styles, each reflecting a different animal or approach. Yang De's quest threads through a city of wary allies and hidden rivalries as he tracks down these elusive fighters. He encounters the Lizard, whose calm stance hides lethal precision; the Scorpion, quick and cunning; the Centipede, relentless and brutal; the Toad, patient and compact; and the Snake, sly and dangerous. As each confrontation unfolds, Yang De learns that true skill tests more than speed it tests trust and resolve.

Directed by Chang Cheh with a script by Ni Kuang, The Five Venoms arrived in 1978 from Shaw Brothers Studio. It's regarded as a landmark martial arts picture that helped popularize the venom style and ensemble choreography.

Over the years The Five Venoms has become a cult touchstone in kung fu cinema. Its color coded ensemble and inventive fight sequences have influenced later choreographers and inspired countless imitators. Fans cite the movie for its stylish villain designs and memorable duels.

Critics noted brisk pace and stark storytelling, with a focus on mentorship, loyalty, and the danger of rivalries. The film blends drama with action as Yang De negotiates trust among rivals and learns that mastery can be a treacherous path.
