About The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
Five years have passed since the world of bricks faced its first triumph, and life in Bricksburg has settled into a quirky normal. Out of nowhere, a new danger arrives from the sky in the form of oversized DUPLO bricks piloted by mysterious invaders. They tear through the city, demolishing structures faster than the citizens can rebuild, forcing everyone to improvise with makeshift defenses and strange alliances. Emmet and Wyldstyle, joined by Batman and a cast of familiar allies, must adapt to this chaotic challenge, unite rival groups, and rediscover the sense that creativity and cooperation can outbuild even the biggest threats. The stakes rise as loyalties are tested and new allies step forward.
Directed by Mike Mitchell, the film expands the world conceived by Craig Berry, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, preserving the playful tone while expanding the cast and visuals across a broader audience under Warner Bros and the Lego Group.
The film grossed about 199.6 million worldwide on a 99 million budget, signaling solid commercial performance. While audiences around the world turned out for the fast paced, humor driven follow up, the domestic reception was strong and international markets carried most of the load. International markets drove its success.
Alongside the original, this installment helped keep Lego films top of mind for families, driving a wave of toys, video games and collectible sets. Its bright color palette and friendly, self aware humor contributed to a sense that animation can be a shared playground for kids and adults.
Critics generally praised the film for its brisk pace, vivid animation and playful humor, while noting it does not quite match the original in its freshness. The story emphasizes teamwork, adapting to change, and holding on to imagination and individuality when communities face disruption, a message that resonates with families.
