About Vermeil in Gold
Alto Goldfield is a grades-obsessed student who tries to shortcut his way to graduation by conjuring a little something from beyond the world of his classmates. The plan backfires when the deal binds Vermeil, a legendary she-devil, into service as his familiar. She is ancient, sharp tongued, and far stronger than she looks, and she refuses to treat Alto's failures as simply a run of bad luck. Suddenly their daily routine swirls with magic, mischief, and the mismatched pair stumbling through school life, magical duels, and strange errands. What starts as a prank turns into a messy partnership where the boundaries between human ambition and demon power blur, often to comic effect. The show leans into high energy visuals and clever pop culture nods along the way.
Released in 2022, Vermeil in Gold comes from creators Tatsuya Takahashi and Kouta Amana. The series features a voice cast led by Yuya Hirose as Alto and Maaya Uchida as Vermeil, supported by Wakana Kuramochi, Yu Okano, and Kaori Ishihara.
Among fans the show is noted for its unusual premise a school setting that meets demon lore and for the witty banter between a stubborn human and a centuries old demon. The dynamic subverts typical hero sidekick roles and has sparked fan art and online discussions.
Reception focuses on its brisk pace, sharp humor, and the balance of light fantasy with coming of age moments. The themes include choosing effort over shortcuts, friendship under pressure, and how an unlikely alliance changes what each character thinks they can do. The show earned a modest 7.091 out of 10 from 93 votes.
Awards: To date there are no major nominations or wins announced for Vermeil in Gold, and it has not been singled out on industry award lists. That said the series has earned praise from fans for its humor and character dynamics.
