About Vick & Tarstar's Scarecrow Factory
Vick & Tarstar's Scarecrow Factory follows two indie filmmakers trying to finish their trash-horror picture, Scarecrowed, amid chaos. Vick and Tarstar recruit an eccentric mix of punks, addicts, fetish models and dumpster divers to populate their set, but money runs out, relationships fray, and people quit. The film balances on a thread of stubborn optimism: they think their off-kilter idea about hair-cutting scarecrows and animatronic Goo Guys is worth the mess. Scenes flip between on-set bickering, late-night storytelling, and stubborn DIY filmmaking, keeping the focus on the struggle to make art when everything else is collapsing, without revealing how any of it ends.
Directed by Brewce Longo and released in 2025, the project was created by Kasper Meltedhair, Erin Caywood and Amelia Hilden. Erin Caywood, Nicole Elyse, Brewce Longo, Gaby Bogdanoff and Josh Christensen lead the cast, and the film leans into a deliberately rough aesthetic that mirrors its subject matter.
As of release the film has not received major awards or nominations. It’s an underground feature that hasn’t been recognized by major industry prizes yet, leaving room for later festival attention or cult interest rather than awards season momentum.
Early cultural reaction has operated mostly in niche circles. Shock value and the Scarecrow Factory concept have sparked conversation among indie horror forums and social feeds, where viewers trade favorite unsettling images and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. The movie’s DIY effects and gritty set pieces give it a memorable visual identity that’s easy for fans to reference.
Reception is still forming, with only a handful of responses so far, including a 10.0/10 user vote from one reviewer. Viewers tend to notice its raw depiction of creative desperation, the murky ethics of using marginalized collaborators for art, and a blend of bleak domestic drama with transgressive horror elements. The film asks messy questions about authorship, exploitation and how far people will go to get a story on screen.
