About You're Being Summoned, Azazel-san
Sometimes the trickiest cases are the ones that involve private lives and secret cravings. In this series a tough private investigator uses occult help to handle cases others shy away from. Akutabe wields a brutal mix of sly intellect and supernatural power to nudge clients toward answers. But demon bargaining is a delicate game and the price can be higher than expected. His new part time assistant Sakuma, a college student, quickly finds herself bound to Azazel through a demon contract. Azazel embodies laziness, hedonism and mischief, always trying to push boundaries. Sakuma must keep the demon on a leash while resisting temptations of her own.
Released in 2011, the show comes from creators Yasuhisa Kubo, Yoshitaka Koyama and Tarou Iwasaki. It blends sharp animation with a darkly comic take on occult law and office politics in a world where demons are very real.
Reception and themes: Critics described the series as an offbeat blend of supernatural hijinks and character driven humor. It examines power dynamics between humans and otherworldly beings and asks how far someone should go to protect their clients while resisting temptation. The humor leans into quick wits, dry dialogue and awkward professional ethics, giving the show a quirky yet thoughtful edge.
Cultural impact: The show has a modest but loyal fan base among anime comedy enthusiasts. Azazel's laid back but disruptive presence plus Sakuma's growing discomfort with her situation creates memorable exchanges that fans quote in forums. While not a mainstream sensation, it influenced later demon centered comedies by embracing workplace satire and morally gray decisions.
Awards: It received little mainstream attention and did not secure major nominations. However, it picked up a handful of nominations at smaller industry events and won no widely recognized prizes. Its status as a cult title is reflected in ongoing fan discussions and occasional retroactive praise from genre specialists.
