About Rage of Bahamut
Two thousand years after the black-and-silver dragon Bahamut was sealed away, the world of Mistarcia appears peaceful, but the peace is brittle. The dragon's power was locked into a single key split into two halves, one kept by gods and one by demons. When a human woman steals the gods' portion, old rivalries and secret agendas resurface. The story follows an unlikely assortment of people, including a roguish bounty hunter, a weary knight, a mysterious child, and a mischievous spirit, as their choices set off a chain of chases, alliances, and clashes that threaten to reopen the old wound without revealing any final outcomes.
Released in 2014, the anime was directed by Keiichi Sato and created by Shizuka Oishi, adapting the popular digital card game Rage of Bahamut into a serialized animated format.
The series didn’t sweep mainstream awards, but it found strong support in fan polls and anime community discussion, and it raised the profiles of its voice cast. That grassroots recognition helped cement its reputation among genre fans even without major industry trophies.
Rage of Bahamut helped translate the card game's setting into a vivid televised world, the Bahamut design and mythic imagery sticking with viewers. Its blend of high fantasy motifs and streetwise character dynamics inspired fan art, cosplay, and merchandise, and it paved the way for further animated entries that expanded the franchise beyond the original game audience.
Critical reaction emphasized the show’s high-energy action, detailed animation, and textured worldbuilding, and viewers rated it 7.7/10 from 135 votes. The series wrestles with themes of power and responsibility, the uneasy relationships between gods, demons, and humans, and how ordinary people cope when ancient forces resurface, all while keeping a brisk tone that mixes humor with darker stakes.
