James Lynx was a United Nations pilot whose life falls apart after his wife, a Martian scientist, seemingly dies in a lab accident. Blamed by their children, he leaves the military and spends years ferrying cargo between Earth and Mars, holding on to a slim hope she survived. His work and drinking numb the loss until an orbital frame named "Dolores" arrives, sent by the woman he thought was dead.
