The series follows identical twin sisters who were separated as children and grew up in very different circumstances. As adults the wealthy Paola Bracho decides she wants to leave her marriage and pursue a life of luxury and secret romances, so she pressures her poorer twin, Paulina Martínez, to impersonate her for a time. Paulina agrees and steps into a household full of money, scheming relatives and a husband with hidden secrets. Playing Paola brings unexpected warmth, moral dilemmas and tense confrontations, and loyalties start to shift as hidden agendas surface and new alliances form without resolving key mysteries early on.

Deceptions premiered in 1998 as a Spanish-language telenovela on prime-time TV, directed by Beatriz Sheridan and based on material by Inés Rodena and Carlos Romero. Gabriela Spanic and Fernando Colunga headline a cast that also includes Libertad Lamarque and Chantal Andere.
