A routine experimental flight goes terribly wrong when astronaut John Crichton is flung through a wormhole and finds himself light-years from Earth, stranded in a violent region of space. He soon falls in with a ragtag group of escaped prisoners and outcasts living on a sentient ship, where his Earthbound habits and pop-culture references are as baffling as his scientific know-how is useful. The series tracks Crichton as he learns alien customs, negotiates fragile alliances, and copes with the constant threat of capture, while friendships deepen and loyalties shift.
