About Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side: Sword Oratoria
Gods descended to a world where mortals can join familias, organized groups that let adventurers train, fight monsters, gather loot, or just enjoy a social life. This spin-off follows Ais Wallenstein, the Sword Princess, alongside Lefiya Viridis, a young mage eager to prove herself. As members of the Loki Familia, they head toward the Tower of Babel and the dungeon beneath it, a place filled with dangerous creatures and tougher tests of skill. Ais is driven to sharpen her swordsmanship, while Lefiya chases a dream of rising to Riveria's stature as the familia's top magic user. The series focuses on fights, personal ambitions, and the bond between teammates without giving away later twists.
Released in 2017, the anime adapts Fujino Omori's light novels, drawing on Kiyotaka Haimura's character art and Hideki Shirane's involvement in the production. It arrived as a targeted expansion of the original series for fans who wanted more of Ais and the Loki Familia.
The show didn't pick up major industry awards, but it found an audience among franchise followers and genre fans. Reviews often highlighted the action scenes and character focus, even if mainstream award recognition didn't follow.
As a franchise offshoot, it broadened interest in the DanMachi universe by zooming in on a popular side cast. Scenes featuring Ais and the twins Tiona and Tione became frequent topics in fan forums, and the series reinforced Ais's status as a favorite for cosplay and fan art, keeping conversations about the larger world alive between main installments.
Critical reception skewed mixed to positive, reflected in a 6.9/10 user vote average from 97 votes. Viewers praised choreography and the concentrated spotlight on character development, while some critics wanted tighter pacing and fresher plot beats. The show leans into themes of skill refinement, rivalry, mentorship, and what it means to prove yourself within a group built around shared danger and loyalty.
