About Jungle 2 Jungle
Tim Allen plays Michael Cromwell, a tight laced New York City executive who follows his wife to the Amazon after their split and ends up bringing home a boy raised among a Brazilian tribe. The boy, Mimi-Siku, has grown up with jungle skills and a language all his own, and he must suddenly learn the rules of urban life where blowguns and trees meet boardrooms and grocery runs. As the unlikely family tries to connect, misadventure and cultural clashes pile up in a string of comic set pieces. The result is a mismatched pair navigating two very different worlds with humor and heart.
Directed by John Pasquin, Jungle 2 Jungle is a 1997 family comedy with a screenplay by Bruce A Evans, Raynold Gideon and Hervé Palud. It was released by 20th Century Fox and targeted wholesome family entertainment with a buoyant, colorfully shot aesthetic.
The movie earned roughly 59.9 million worldwide on a 32 million budget, marking it as a solid if modest performer in the family comedy market; it did decent business overseas as well for its genre and era.
Jungle 2 Jungle sits in the 90s range of family comedies that mix city life slapstick with a jungle upbringing. The dynamic between a stressed urban father and a child raised in the wild echoes themes of family bonds and adaptation. The setting uses jungle beauty and family comedy tropes to present a friendly, if light, look at cross cultural differences that resonates with 90s family film audiences.
Reception tended to lean on family friendly humor and warm moments rather than sharp satire. Its themes center on father child bonds, adjusting to new cultures, and learning to let go of rigid routines. It presents a light hearted look at blending two very different lives, and invites audiences to see humor in adaptation.
