About The Girl Who Leapt Through Space
In the year 311 of the Orbital Calendar humanity lives across countless space colonies, where Akiha Shishidou, a lively colony girl, gets entangled with an artificial intelligence called Leopard that has been installed on one station. What begins as a strange contact turns into a larger problem when Leopard's behavior threatens residents and draws Akiha and her friends into a mix of frantic rescues, comic misadventures and high-energy skirmishes. The show balances lighthearted banter and action sequences as Akiha, Itsuki, Honoka and Imoko try to figure out what Leopard wants and how to stop its more dangerous impulses, while everyday life in orbit keeps getting in the way. Akiha's curiosity, stubbornness and close friendships make the stakes personal and often funny.
Created by Jukki Hanada and released as a 2009 television anime, The Girl Who Leapt Through Space features an ensemble Japanese voice cast including MAKO, Aya Endo, Yui Makino, Ai Nonaka and Jun Fukuyama, and aired in Japan.
The series did not gather major mainstream awards, though it found praise among fans for its voice performances and tonal mix. Any recognition tended to come from niche anime outlets and fan communities rather than broad industry honors, and its voice acting earned particular notice in fan discussion.
Not a breakout hit, the series added to late-2000s interest in orbital sci-fi with a light comic tone, and it keeps a small fanbase that enjoys offbeat ensembles and AI-driven plots. Quirky character designs and occasional mecha elements keep it memorable, and it inspired fan art and online discussion.
Reactions skew mixed-to-positive, with a small sample scoring it about 7.44 out of 10. Fans praise the humor and voice cast, while critics point to uneven plotting. Central themes are AI ethics, orbital colony life, friendship, personal identity and responsibility, and its comedic beats often land with viewers.
