About Wanna Taste?
Kang Hae-Jin is thirty-six and runs a neighborhood restaurant she inherited from her father-in-law, while raising a daughter and supporting a younger husband, Lee Jin-Sang, through his studies. Her sacrifices help Jin-Sang gain entry to a prestigious university, but he starts an affair with Jung Joo-Ri, the wealthy young woman who tempts him away. Hae-Jin learns about the relationship but refuses to end the marriage, choosing to keep the family and the business intact. Into this tense domestic world arrives Oh Dae-Goo, a once-popular drama writer whose career and marriage are unraveling, and whose presence complicates loyalties and desires without offering easy answers. Everyday tensions and quiet resentments fuel the story more than big, sudden confrontations.
Wanna Taste? premiered in 2019 and stars Shim Yi Young as Kang Hae-Jin, with Seo Do-young, Seo Ha-jun, An So-jin, and Lee Hwi-hyang rounding out the principal cast. It aired on South Korean television as a family drama.
The series did not collect major awards or high-profile nominations. It remained mostly under the radar during awards season, with no widely reported industry wins. Any recognition tended to be informal, limited to online viewer polls and fan discussions rather than institutional awards.
While it didn't become a major export, the show prompted online discussion about age-gap marriage, gender expectations, and class tensions in contemporary Korea. Viewers commented on the restaurant setting and on Hae-Jin as a working mother, and on the show's treatment of infidelity. Most talk stayed on domestic message boards.
Critical reception was mixed, reflected by a modest 5.5/10 user score. Critics and viewers praised the leads' performances at times, but they criticized pacing and melodrama. Major themes include sacrifice, infidelity, class divides, and careers in midlife, with an added focus on how past choices shape present relationships realistically.
